Sigma Phi Epsilon at the University of Massachusetts is the largest fraternity on campus. With a 22,000 sq. foot chapter facility on Olympia Drive we have over 65 members with 45 living in the house. We are proud to also say that we are the only fraternity that has a full service kitchen and chef.
We pride ourselves on being the Balanced Men on campus. While academics is our first priority, our brothers excel in sports, extracurricular activities and community service thoughout the school year. MA Alpha boasts an A10 swimmer, 30 different club affiliations, and 5 members hold executive positions in other organizations on campus.
With the help of our membership development program, are able to find time to go to class, be involved in other organizations on campus, work-out and socialize on a daily basis. We provide educational programming which enhances our brothers' daily lives and creates an environment where excellence is rewarded, and anything less is met with help from other members. Whether it be two nights in the mountains learning about each other or getting a seminar on buying jewelry we believe we provide our brother's the best experience possible.
We do not have a pledge process as many fraternities do. Instead, we have what is called the Balanced Man Program which is a non-pledging, 4-year continuous learning program to teach the skills and respect a true fraternity man should have. To be a Balanced Man is to follow the ancient greek philosophy of "sound mind and sound body." Each stage provides our brothers with skills that will better him in the future such as time management mentoring as a freshman or dress for success programs as a senior.
Sigma Phi Epsilon participates in many philanthropy events throughout the year. Our national philanthropy, the YouthAIDS Foundation benefits from our annual 3 v. 3 basketball tournament. Another unique event we hold annually is our Campout for Cancer to benefit the American Cancer Society. Canned food drives, shoveling snow for seniors and Habitat for Humanity are just a few of the many things we do on a monthly basis. That doesn't even include the all-Greek dance marathon or Relay for Life which we also participate in. To read more about these events please visit our 'philanthropy' page.
We also have various social events for our brothers throught the semester. Social exchanges with sororities, date parties and formals are just a few of the things we do each semester. Coming up this semester we will be hosting two national acts, comedian Steve Hofstetter of Vh1 and CollegeHumor.com, and We The Living a purevolume favorite and up and coming band from Los Angeles. In addition, our chapter boasts the largest tailgate party in Amherst during the football season as well!
